Pricing questions.
Do I need a credit card to start?
No. Stakk is free to start, with every feature included. You only pay when a transaction goes through.
How does the fee work?
One all-in rate from 10% + $0.50 per transaction, payment processing included. It is made up of Stakk's platform fee of 7.1% + 20c, which never varies, plus Stripe's processing fee, which at their standard published rate is 2.9% + 30c. Together that is 10% + 50c. If your Stripe account settles in a currency other than US dollars, Stripe adds a conversion fee of roughly 2% on top, which takes a typical sale to around 12%. Every one of these appears as a line item in your own Stripe account. There is no monthly fee and no setup fee.
Does Stripe charge me anything on top?
No. Processing is already inside the 10% + $0.50 rather than added to it. Because these are Stripe Standard accounts, Stripe bills its processing fee to your account directly - so Stakk takes a smaller share, 7.1% + 20c, and the two together land on the 10% + 50c you were quoted. The one thing that does sit outside that figure is Stripe’s currency conversion fee, which applies only if your account settles in something other than US dollars.
Is one order one fee?
Usually, yes. An order bump is added before the buyer pays, so the product and the bump go through as a single charge and carry a single 10% + $0.50 - the bump costs you nothing extra in fixed fees. An upsell is the exception: it is offered after the first payment has already succeeded, so it has to be its own charge, and it carries its own fee. The worked example above shows exactly how that lands.
What if my buyer pays with an international card?
The 10% + $0.50 assumes Stripe's standard 2.9% + 30c, which is their US rate. Your real total depends on two things: the card, and whether Stripe has to convert the money. On international or cross-border cards Stripe charges more than 2.9% + 30c, so your total goes up. Domestic rates in the UK, EEA and Australia are lower than the US rate, so on those the processing itself costs you less - but if your account settles in a currency other than US dollars, Stripe’s conversion fee of roughly 2% more than cancels that out. In practice a seller outside the US settling in their own currency should expect about 12%, not 10% + 50c. Stakk's 7.1% + 20c never changes in any of these cases, and Stakk receives no part of Stripe's fee.
What currency are my products sold in?
US dollars, everywhere. You price once and every buyer in every country sees the same number. If your Stripe account settles in another currency - AUD, GBP, EUR and so on - Stripe converts the money and charges its own conversion fee for doing it, typically around 2%. That conversion is a Stripe charge on your account rather than part of Stakk's 7.1% + 20c, and it is the single biggest reason a sale lands above 10% + 50c: on a real order it works out at roughly 12% all in. If you would rather avoid it, Stripe lets many non-US accounts hold and settle a US dollar balance, which removes the conversion entirely. Stripe's current rates are published at stripe.com/pricing.
Can I pass the fee on to my buyer?
No. Your buyer pays the price on the page and nothing else. Adding a fee at checkout costs you sales, and on a digital product it reads like surprise shipping.
What can I charge for a product?
Between $1 and $999 for any single product. That ceiling is per product, not per order - a buyer taking several products in one visit can spend past $999, and each of those purchases is its own transaction with its own fee.
Can I sell a subscription or a membership?
Not on Stakk. Every purchase is a one-off - there is no recurring billing on the platform, for you or for your buyers. A coaching call or a community invite is sold as a product that delivers a link.
When do I get paid?
Stripe pays you, on Stripe's schedule. Buyers pay into your own Stripe Standard account, so you are the merchant of record and Stakk never holds your money or sits between you and your payout.
If I refund a customer, do I get the Stakk fee back?
No. The fee pays for the sale being made - the storefront, the checkout, the delivery and the payment infrastructure all did their job, and a refund does not undo that work. Stripe keeps its processing fee on a refunded payment for the same reason. Refunding the buyer is entirely your call, and you refund the full amount they paid; Stakk's 7.1% + 20c and Stripe's processing fee are not returned to you.
What is the refund policy on my products?
Digital sales on Stakk are final. Buyers agree at checkout that their purchase is delivered immediately and is not returnable, with one exception that always stands: if they do not receive what they paid for, or it is materially not as described, they are entitled to a remedy. You can always offer a more generous policy, and you decide every refund on your own products - Stakk does not issue refunds for you or mediate disputes between you and your buyer.
Can I close my store anytime?
Yes. There is no contract and no subscription to cancel. Close your store anytime from your dashboard.
How do my customers pay?
By card, through Stripe. Stakk has no monthly bill, so there is nothing for you to pay upfront.
